Amelia's Story
"Amelia the Neek" is a highly skilled and versatile content creator. Her specialties include portrait photography, photo editing, artistic photo manipulation, character art, logo design, ad layout and web design, informative and creative writing, online research, social media management, and search engine optimization.
Education
Despite having no formal higher education, Amelia has taught herself an impressive array of creative and technical skills. She has also sought out experienced mentors to help her become a master in her diverse fields of expertise.
Amelia began her career as a digital artist in 1995, specializing in photo manipulation - an industry standard for creative ad design since the late 1990s. This technique involves transforming photographs into conceptual works, often with over 100 composite layers and effects, resulting in project files exceeding 1GB. Amelia is best known for her surreal artwork, blending elements of beauty, fashion, science fiction, and fantasy, using real human likenesses and original faces. For example, her past projects have featured a cybernetic Jedi fairy with a rainbow lightsaber, a cyberpunk elven vampire in futuristic Tokyo, and a humanoid unicorn in full medieval armor. Amelia notes that requests for artwork depicting alternate versions of existing characters are quite popular, such as Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher set in the distant future, or Harley Quinn from DC Comics with the physique of a curvy female bodybuilder. Her clients have many fun and imaginative ideas.
Over the years, Amelia's clients have ranged from amateur models and small businesses to prestigious independent publications. Her first major commissions were photographing a Jared the Galleria of Jewelry grand opening and creative photo editing for an LA Weekly editorial featuring Perish Dignam. She has provided a wide array of services - from photography and design to writing and marketing - for numerous public icons and businesses including Kavyar, Kortney Olsen (Grrrl), and the late Jillian Ann Durgin (Ritual Fashion), among others. Amelia is currently the brand designer for Teton Kitchen and Catering by Marjorie, two popular award-winning food industry businesses in Buffalo, NY, USA, and she is being head-hunted by several licensed marketing agencies.
Experience
Amelia's photography and artwork have been published in over two dozen beauty and fashion magazines, including Solis, Pump, Elléments, Elegant, Prolific Quarterly, Freque, Fienfh, and Good Light. She was the founder of beauty, fashion and art magazines, Strange Beauty, Beautivation, and Nephilim, and she plans to launch another in the near future, pending the necessary promotional and financial support.
Amelia is an active member of the Freelancers Union, a proud nerd and geek, and a pre-op transgender woman who is thankful that she was born and raised in Buffalo, a city that is well-known for being friendly and supportive to the LGBTQ+ community. Also, despite being diagnosed with and autism (Asperger's Syndrome) and CPTSD, she uses her creativity, offering valuable services to those who need it as a method of focus and self-healing.
